Geocities Shuts Down…Geeks Morn

In the beginning of the Internet there was Geocities.  A great little site that allow people to publish their own webpage and be part of an online community.  Yes this was the dawn of social networking however crude it was.  I myself never participated in it, but did stumble across lots of good information on people’s sites.

Yahoo! bought Geocities at the peak of the dotcom bubble for around $3 Billion.  I hope it was worth it, because I always felt it wasn’t the same and in a downward slide sense then.  Oh well, we’ll just cast off the web content of Geocities just like that damn dancing baby on Ally McBeal.

Geeks Helping Geeks Find Geeks

It seems like every commercial break on TV contains an ad for some dating website these days.  I will admit I found my wife on eHarmony, so they do at least allow people to connect.  Ask my wife some time about her opinion on the subject…but that’s beside the point of this post.  I found the ultimate dating site for geeks: Geek 2 Geek

Whether you’re looking for romance or just friendship, this is the place to hook up. Geeks are special, and their interests don’t match the kinds of questions asked in other dating sites’ profiles. We have carefully designed our profile information by including information that is important to geeks and their admirers. Not only that, but you have the ability to pick the most important characteristics of a match so that your matches most closely reflect your specific interests.

So is there a special section for Dungeons and Dragons lovers?  How about inputting your interests as: Powerful Romulan looking for one sexy Klingon to pillage with.  It just goes to show you there’s always someone out there for you, you just need to look harder some times.
